Potty training is one of the first things pup is going to be learning, and it’s a process that will require a lot of time and patience.
There isn't a guaranteed time period since most of it depends on the training method you choose.
The good news on the other hand is that potty training should only take a couple of weeks if it is consistent.
Here are some tips to get your pup on the right track.
1. Supervise and direct
Having someone supervising in the beginning to take them out will help when it comes to teaching them that prevention is key.
2. Excessive praise
Praising your dog excessively every single time they pee or poop outside will help them catch on that they should keep doing that.
3. Don't punish them for an accident indoors
They still won't understand what they're doing wrong. If you catch your dog in the act, bring them outside, and praise them when they finish the job outdoors.
4. Keep a schedule
Get them to know when they can expect potty breaks throughout the day. Good times include:
- In the morning when they wake up
- After they’ve eaten
- After they get up from a nap
- Before bedtime
