Doggy Spa Day: Essential Oils

Doggy Spa Day: Essential Oils

Humans often use aromatherapy to calm the nerves and relax. How much more effective must it be for a dog whose senses are heightened? But

are essential oils safe for dogs? It's important to do your research before because not all of them are.

Lavender oil

Lavender oil is probably one of the best known oils used to calm dogs with anxiety. Gently rub the oil into your dog’s ears, fur, and skin as a nice massage. Not only does it pamper your pup, the oil has antibacterial and anti-itch agents which can aid in soothing skin irritations.

Coconut oil

Looking to give your dog's coat a nice upgrade? Coconut oil will give you the shine while treating eczema/itchy skin and minimizing dog odor.

There are many benefits to using scented oils for dogs. Not only will many of the oils soothe your pet, it’s also a great opportunity to spend some quality time and bond with your pet!

Some studies have shown that certain types of essential oils may do more harm than good. Try to avoid tea tree, citrus, peppermint, and pine. Always remember to dilute any essential oils before use as well.
